Keta: August
Keta: August
This is the northern most fishery in Alaska and its Keta salmon is a little bit of a freak. Average weight is 8 lbs+, its oil content is one of the highest in the world, its eggs are big and fat, and it snowed last year in August for 3 hours - while we wore t-shirts! The run is a fast and short 6 weeks. The fishermen are 95% Inupiaq Eskimo, lively and fun, and quick to fish since they go caribou hunting 1-2 days after the run ends. This might be the healthiest and happiest fishery in the world.
